Jayden Socks – Variegated vs Semi-Solid Hand Dyed Yarn
Sock Notes - Jayden Socks
These socks are another example of how different hand-dyed yarns can completely change the look of the same pattern.
For this pair, I knitted two versions using the same method and chart — one in a variegated yarn and one using a combination of semi-solid colours. It’s always interesting to see how the finished socks take on their own character depending on the yarn choice.

The variegated Deepwater sock creates a soft colour changes throughout. It works beautifully with simple charts, adding interest without needing anything too complex.
The pink version, using a mix of semi-solid shades, gives a more defined and structured look. The individual colours highlight the pattern differently and create a slightly bolder finish.
Both approaches work equally well it simply depends on the look you prefer and how you want the pattern to show.
I often like knitting the same pattern more than once using different yarns. It’s a great way to explore how colour and texture can completely transform a project while keeping the knitting process familiar and enjoyable.
